We are seeking to fill the Director role for Sandia’s Center for Global Security & Cooperation (Center 6800). The selected candidate will take on being accountable for leading an organization in delivering systems-based solutions to global and national security challenges and perform appropriate related contracting, financial management, and analytical tasks for advancing Sandia’s missions in Nonproliferation and Cooperative Threat Reduction. This position oversees Global Security activities in global engineered security systems; international biological/chemical threat reduction; global nuclear security and nonproliferation; and related activities requiring specialized training, expertise, planning and response to Global Security areas of responsibility. The ideal candidate a) will exhibit passion for this particular job/line of work, b) will be someone who can be respected as an advisor to senior government customers, c) will be somebody who leans forward on innovating new ideas and approaches to Global Security-not just managing what is there, d) is someone who has demonstrated leading a large workforce with employee morale a key factor in his/her success, e) is a student of international relations, particularly in the cooperative solution space (not just US-focused security or intel).

As the Director, you shall be called on to:

  • Provide overview, execution, and coordination of programs in nonproliferation and cooperative threat reduction.
  • Support specialized training, expertise, planning and response for this mission area.
  • Manage program resources to provide appropriate technical judgment to ensure meeting customer needs, and integrity and consistency in the research process.
  • Provide expert opinion, evaluation and advice for other programs at Sandia.

Qualifications We Require

  • Undergraduate and graduate (Masters or PhD) degree in a relevant STEM discipline
  • At least twelve years relevant experience, including eight or more years managerial experience (at least 3 years as a Sr. Manager)
  • 5+ years progressive experience interacting with national security laboratories, high level representatives for government and non-government organizations, internal and external partners, and suppliers at all levels to negotiate, plan and deliver on customer requirements.
  • Knowledge/experience in:
    • International Institutions accountable for Treaties and Agreements
    • International security programs
    • Foreign environments
    • Active DOE Q clearance and are willing to apply for an SCI clearance
