Description:

The Security Director is responsible for the management, training and oversight of security personnel all Hartford Public Library. Responsibilities include daily oversight of security staff, scheduling, planning, assigning, and directing security work; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responds to emergency calls, including after-hour calls in coordination with Chief Administrative Manager. Manages security department daily operations to promote and provide a safe library environment. May on occasion support security coverage. Monitors Incident Reports, and Facility Access Reports accessing the environment with respect to security issues or concerns and escalates to Director. Prepares monthly security statistics and leverage incident management tool to effectively manage security operations. Manages guard training, guard card training program and other trainings as required. Assures all security equipment in good working condition. Conducts investigations and liaisons with Hartford Police and UConn security personnel. Issues and collects FOB access devices. Provides appropriate leadership response to enforce security policies and procedures and ensures the highest level of service is provided by staff to all customers. Works collaboratively with Senior Leadership team and managers as required. Reviews and updates security procedures as required. Manages department budget.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferable in Criminal Justice or similar studies.
  • 5-7 years’ experience of related supervisory experience required and must include public safety experience and security management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with security procedures and protocols. Ability to communicate effectively, utilizing good interpersonal skills to maintain effective and positive relationships with employees, staff and managers.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required. Must have reliable transportation.
  • Guard card certification is required.
  • Solid written and verbal communication, listening, organization and priority setting skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, coworkers, management personnel, the public and others. Works collaboratively with Senior leadership team members as required. Creates positive relationships with subordinates maintaining a professional environment.
  • Ability to provide welcoming and effective customer service.
  • Ability to deal effectively with elected officials, and other public constituencies. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities. Ability to think quickly, assess a situation and make a sound decision.
  • Ability to create clear and concise reports, and to deliver them orally to a wide variety of audiences.

**Must be able to work a varied schedule inclusive of evenings and weekends.**

Preferred:

CPR certification preferred, required within 3 months of hire.
