Until his retirement in August 2008, Nick Proctor was Head of Group Security for British American Tobacco (BAT) based in London, England. During his tenure leading BAT’s global security function, Nick implemented a robust change management process that restructured and focused security into a truly global function, aligned with business strategies and consistent in the value it delivered. During his time with BAT, Nick also served in two regional roles – one in America Pacific based at BAT’s US unit in Louisville, Kentucky and the other in Europe where he realigned the function to better fit regional business objectives.
Prior to joining BAT, Nick was a senior executive with the US Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security. With twenty-eight years in public service, including service in the US Army Intelligence Corps, Nick was assigned as the security attaché at US Embassies in West Germany, Sri Lanka, Jordan and Japan, advising Ambassadors and staff on security issues ranging from counter-intelligence to counter-terrorism. Immediately prior to joining BAT, Nick served as the Executive Director of the Secretary of State's Overseas Security Advisory Council - a private / public sector partnership that brings the US federal law enforcement and intelligence communities together with the American private sector to address security issues relating to US investment and presence abroad.
Nick holds a baccalaureate degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in public administration. He is a member of the International Security Management Association, American Society of Industrial Security, International Association of Chiefs of Police, and a former member of the UK based Risk and Security Management Forum. While based in London, Nick also served on the steering committee for the UK Foreign Commonwealth initiative, Security Information Service for Business Overseas (SISBO).
